The chairman of all progressive grand alliance, APGA in Abia state reverend Augustin Ehimere has emerged the newly elected chairman of inter party advisory council, IPAC in Abia state.
Ehimere polled twenty four votes to defeat his opponent who polled twenty three votes in the tight contest held at INEC headquarters umuahia.
Chairman of the election committee from IPAC office Abuja, Japhate Anyanwu also announced that the state chairman of social democratic party, Chidi Nwosu emerged as vice chairman.
The IPAC is the umbrella body of all political parties in Nigeria.
Speaking shortly with our correspondent after the victory, the new IPAC chairman described his victory as victory for democracy. He explained that during the election, he saw democracy in action and to advised INEC to emulate the transparent level of the election which produced him as Chairman of IPAC.
Reverend Ehiemere made it clear that his victory is a signal of change which is expected in Abia State and also revealed that under his leadership as IPAC chairman, due process will be observed and they will also insist that Abians enjoy the dividends of democracy.
Ehimere almost lost the battle because former state IPAC chairman, Emeka Okafor insisted that one Nnanna Ukaegbu had court ruling as the authentic chairman of APGA in Abia state.
However a call put across to APGA national chairman, Ike Oye by the election committee confirmed Ehimere as the authentic chairman, while reverend Augustin Ehimere also produced court stay of execution and notice of appeal which gave him the right to vote and to be voted for.
Recalled that the election according to IPAC members on Wednesday November 7th lamented that the election was built for Monday November 5th which Emeka Okafor denied that he was not informed when the election would hold.
